                   On behalf of the people of Singapore, I would like to congratulate you on your election as the Federal President of Germany. 

                   Singapore and Germany are close friends.  As like-minded partners with common strategic interests, our two countries enjoy strong cooperation across a range of sectors, including trade and investment, defence, education, culture, and science and technology.  In your previous role as the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, you played an integral role in strengthening bilateral ties.  I am confident that cooperation between Singapore and Germany will continue to strengthen under your leadership as President. 

                   I wish you every success in your mandate, and look forward to meeting you in the near future.
