MFA Press Statement: Visit by Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport Mrs Josephine Teo to Republic of Mozambique and Republic of Kenya, 20 to 24 March 2017

        SMS Mrs Josephine Teo visited Mozambique from 20 to 22 March 2017, and Kenya from 23 to 24 March 2017.  SMS Teo’s visit was part of a series of Ministerial visits from Singapore to Sub-Saharan Africa aimed at strengthening linkages between Singapore and countries in the region.

 

          In Mozambique, SMS Teo called on Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosàrio and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Oldemiro Balói to reaffirm bilateral ties and identify areas of cooperation between Singapore and Mozambique.  SMS Teo also held wide-ranging discussions with Minister of Transport and Communications Carlos Mesquita, including collaboration in the aviation and maritime transport domains.  To promote trade and investment, Minister of Industry and Trade Ernesto Max Elias Tonela and SMS Teo signed the Portuguese text of the Mozambique-Singapore Bilateral Investment Treaty.

 

          In Kenya, SMS Teo called on Cabinet Secretary for Industrialisation Adan Mohammed to explore strengthening economic engagement with Kenya.  While in Nairobi, SMS met UN-Habitat Executive Director Dr Joan Clos to discuss on-going collaboration between UN-Habitat and Singapore’s Centre for Liveable Cities on providing capacity building for up to 100 cities by 2030, including those from Africa.

 

          En route to Kenya from Mozambique, SMS Teo made a stopover visit to South Africa, during which she met Minister of Environmental Affairs Dr Edna Molewa, Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters, Premier of Gauteng Province David Makhura, and Gauteng Province Minister for Roads and Transport Dr Ismail Vadi. 

 

      SMS Teo was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
