Senior Minister of State (SMS), Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman is currently in Tehran for his introductory visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran. The trip, from 4 to 8 April 2017, at the invitation of First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Morteza Samadi, is for Singapore to obtain a better understanding of developments in Iran and the wider Middle East region.
Yesterday evening, SMS Maliki called on First Deputy Minister Morteza Samadi, who also hosted dinner for the Singapore delegation. SMS Maliki and First Deputy Minister Samadi had a wide-ranging discussion on developments in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific, in addition to reviewing the bilateral relationship between Singapore and Iran.
SMS Maliki called on the Speaker of the Iranian Consultative Assembly Dr Ali Larijani earlier today. During the meeting, Speaker Larijani affirmed the friendly ties between Singapore and Iran, and the potential for bilateral cooperation in a range of sectors. SMS Maliki and Speaker Larijani also exchanged views on developments in their respective regions. SMS Maliki subsequently met members of the Iran-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group over lunch hosted by the Group’s Chairman, Dr Mahmoud Sadeghi.
SMS Maliki also called on Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare Dr Ali Rabiei, who hosted dinner for SMS Maliki and his accompanying delegation.
Following his trip to Tehran, SMS Maliki will travel to Isfahan Province tomorrow to meet with Isfahan Province Governor-General Dr Rasoul Zargarpour and Isfahan City Mayor Dr Mehdi Jamalinejad.
