MFA Press Statement: Official Visit of the Prime Minister of Australia, The Honourable Malcolm Turnbull, 2-3 June 2017

     The Prime Minister of Australia, the Honourable Malcolm Turnbull, will make his first official visit to Singapore from 2 to 4 June 2017 for the 2nd Singapore-Australia Leaders’ Summit under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Prime Minister Turnbull will be accompanied by Mrs Lucy Turnbull, Minister for Defence the Honourable Marise Payne, and officials from the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Department of Defence.

     An official Welcome Ceremony will be held in honour of Prime Minister Turnbull on 2 June. Prime Minister Turnbull will call on President Tony Tan Keng Yam and meet Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who will also host an Official Lunch. 

     Prime Minister Turnbull will deliver the Keynote Address at the 16th International Institute for Strategic Studies Shangri-La Dialogue on 2 June. On 3 June, both Prime Ministers will jointly open the Erub Arts Exhibition at the Asian Civilisations Museum entitled “Ghost Nets of the Ocean”, which features artwork from Australia’s Torres Strait Islands. Prime Minister and Mrs Turnbull will also visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens where an orchid will be named in their honour.

     Prime Minister Turnbull’s visit reflects the excellent state of bilateral relations between Singapore and Australia, which were elevated through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2015. The visit will build on the inaugural Singapore-Australia Leaders’ Summit in October 2016.
