     His Excellency Truong Hoa Binh, Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is on an Official Visit to Singapore at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean.  Permanent DPM Binh is accompanied by senior Vietnamese officials from various government agencies.

      Permanent DPM Binh paid courtesy calls on President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today, during which they reaffirmed the excellent relations between Singapore and Vietnam and their commitment towards advancing the Singapore-Vietnam Strategic Partnership established in 2013.  They discussed the importance of enhancing connectivity and financial cooperation.  They also exchanged views on regional developments, including cooperation in ASEAN, APEC and deepening regional economic integration.

      Permanent DPM Binh also called on DPM Teo today, during which they discussed deepening bilateral cooperation in wide-ranging areas such as trade and investment, finance, judicial, civil aviation, defence and security cooperation. They also discussed the potential for Singapore and Vietnam to work more closely to tackle transboundary challenges such as counter-terrorism, cyber security and transnational crime.  DPM reaffirmed our continued support for Vietnam's development and capacity building.  Permanent DPM Binh was hosted to lunch by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon and will be hosted to an official dinner by DPM Teo this evening.

      Permanent DPM Binh received briefings by the Public Service Division, Ministry of Home Affairs, Cyber Security Agency and Government Technology Agency (GovTech) today.  The various agencies shared Singapore’s experience in the areas of public service transformation, counter-terrorism, crime prevention and e-Government services, as well as building a resilient cyber environment.  Permanent DPM Binh also visited GovTech Hive and was briefed on Singapore's use of innovation and technology to improve the delivery of digital government services to Singaporeans.

       Yesterday, Permanent DPM Binh received a briefing by the Land Transport Authority on traffic management issues, including Singapore’s experience in managing traffic congestion.  He also visited the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau's Corruption Reporting and Heritage Centre.
