His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam, will make a State Visit to Singapore from 5 to 6 July 2017 at the invitation of President Tony Tan Keng Yam. His Majesty will be accompanied by Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Abu Bakar Apong, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance II Pehin Abdul Rahman Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II Pehin Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office Pehin Yasmin Umar, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Halbi Yussof, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Hamdan Abu Bakar, and other senior Bruneian officials.
Their Majesties will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Istana. His Majesty will pay a courtesy call on President Tan. Her Majesty will be hosted to tea and a visit to the Istana Heritage Gallery by Mrs Mary Tan. President Tan and Mrs Tan will host a State Banquet in honour of Their Majesties. His Majesty will also have a meeting with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Prime Minister Lee and Mrs Lee will host Their Majesties to lunch. Deputy Prime Minister & Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean will also host a separate lunch for His Majesty.
During the State Visit, both countries will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement between Singapore and Brunei. To mark this milestone, Prime Minister Lee and His Majesty will launch commemorative S$50 and B$50 notes. Prime Minister Lee and His Majesty will also jointly open a co-curated exhibition titled “Abode of Peace & the Lion City: A Brunei-Singapore Exhibition” at the Singapore Philatelic Museum. His Majesty will also visit the Singapore Armed Forces’ Airborne Trooper Training Facility in Pasir Ris Camp.
This is His Majesty’s fourth State Visit to Singapore. He last made a State Visit in April 2014. These visits reaffirm the excellent bilateral ties and special relationship between Singapore and Brunei. They underscore the deep and long-standing linkages between both countries. Singapore and Brunei cooperate closely in many areas, from finance and defence to education, security, and health. Both countries also work closely in regional and international fora.
