MFA Press Statement: Visit by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka for the Second Indian Ocean Conference, 31 August to 1 September 2017

                Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will make a visit to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka from 31 August to 1 September 2017 to attend the Second Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) in Colombo, in his capacity as Co Vice-Chair of the Organising Committee, alongside Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India Sushma Swaraj.   The Second IOC will be chaired by Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe.  Minister Balakrishnan will deliver welcome remarks at the inaugural session on 31 August 2017.   

                The IOC is a Track 1.5 event organised by the India Foundation based in New Delhi, in collaboration with the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS) in Colombo and the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), to discuss cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region.  The inaugural IOC was held in Singapore in September 2016.  

                Minister Balakrishnan will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
