MFA Press Statement: Visit by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean to Australia, 8-12 September 2017

     Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean will visit Melbourne and Canberra in Australia from 8 to 12 September 2017. The visit sustains the positive momentum of high-level exchanges between Australia and Singapore, following Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s Official Visit to Singapore in June 2017 and the 10th Singapore-Australia Joint Ministerial Committee meeting in Singapore in August 2017.

      In Melbourne, DPM Teo will join Overseas Singaporeans at Singapore Day 2017. This is the third time Singapore Day is held in Australia following Melbourne in 2008 and Sydney in 2013. He will also have separate meetings with Premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews and key Australian business leaders. In addition, DPM Teo will visit the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation and start-up facilities to explore ways to strengthen cooperation with Australia in the areas of science and innovation, and entrepreneurship. 

      In Canberra, DPM Teo will meet key members of the Australian Government including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Barnaby Joyce, Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop, Attorney-General George Brandis, Minister for Defence Marise Payne, Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Steven Ciobo, and Minister for Justice Michael Keenan. DPM Teo will also have separate meetings with members of the Shadow Cabinet including Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong, Shadow Minister for Defence Richard Marles, and Shadow Minister for Trade and Investment, and Shadow Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Jason Clare. In addition, DPM Teo will lay a wreath at the Australian War Memorial.

      DPM Teo will be accompanied by Mrs Teo, Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth and Trade and Industry Sim Ann, Member of Parliament Saktiandi Supaat, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Industry, the National Research Foundation (Melbourne-leg) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (Canberra-leg).
