MFA Press Statement: Visit by President Halimah Yacob to the Kingdom of Thailand to attend the Royal Cremation Ceremony of His Majesty The Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, 26-27 October 2017

President Halimah Yacob and Mr Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee attended the Royal Cremation Ceremony of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej at Sanam Luang in Bangkok, Thailand this evening.

 

During the Ceremony, President Halimah and Mr Mohamed laid sandalwood flowers at the Royal Funeral Pyre, along with many other Leaders and high-level representatives from countries in ASEAN and around the world.

 

His Majesty King Bhumibol worked tirelessly and was a pillar of strength for the people of Thailand during his 70 years of reign. His wise leadership also set a solid foundation for the strong and enduring ties between Singapore and Thailand. He will long be remembered by not only the Thai people but also the rest of the world.

 

Earlier, in October 2016, both then-President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had made visits to Bangkok to pay respects to His Majesty King Bhumibol at the Grand Palace.

 

President Halimah returns to Singapore tomorrow.
