MFA Press Statement: Visit by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman to South Africa, 17 to 19 October 2017

Senior Minister of State (SMS), Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman will attend the 17^th Council of Ministers Meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) in Durban, South Africa on 18 October 2017. The meeting is hosted by the incoming Chair of IORA, South Africa. SMS Maliki will discuss with other Member States ways to enhance cooperation within the Indian Ocean Rim. He will also hold bilateral meetings with representatives of the IORA Member States.

Singapore is a founding member of IORA, which was established in 1997 to promote regional economic cooperation in the Indian Ocean. IORA currently has 21 Member States from Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australia, and seven Dialogue Partners, namely China, Egypt, Japan, France, Germany, the UK and the US. SMS Maliki will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
