The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier, will make a State Visit to Singapore from 2 to 3 November 2017. This is the first State Visit by a German Head of State to Singapore. President Steinmeier will be accompanied by his wife, Ms Elke Büdenbender, parliamentarians, businessmen, and senior officials.
This visit reaffirms Singapore’s excellent relations with Germany, a like-minded partner, with whom we share many common interests. President Steinmeier will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Istana on 2 November 2017, followed by a courtesy call on President Halimah Yacob and a meeting with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. President Halimah will host a State Banquet in honour of President Steinmeier that evening.
President Steinmeier will deliver the 9th Ho Rih Hwa Leadership Lecture at the Singapore Management University (SMU) on foreign policy and global issues. President Steinmeier will visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens where an orchid will be named in his honour.
