MFA Press Statement: Leaders’ Retreat between Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, 15-16 January 2018

  Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak will visit Singapore from 15 to 16 January 2018 for the 8thSingapore-Malaysia Leaders’ Retreat at the invitation of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The Leaders’ Retreat is the key platform for both Prime Ministers to review progress in bilateral ties and set the direction going forward.

        Prime Minister Najib will call on President Halimah Yacob on 15 January 2018. Prime Minister Lee and Mrs Lee will host a private dinner for Prime Minister Najib and his wife Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor later that evening.

        The Prime Ministers and their delegations will meet on 16 January 2018 for bilateral discussions. The Prime Ministers will witness the signing of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Bilateral Agreement by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure & Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan and Malaysian Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan. The RTS Link will help to boost connectivity, strengthen our economic and business links, and enhance people-to-people relations.

        Another key element of the visit will be the two Prime Ministers’ attendance at the Official Opening of Marina One and DUO on 15 January 2018. These are the two mixed development projects developed by M+S Pte Ltd, a Joint Venture between Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited and Khazanah Nasional Berhad. These two iconic projects will bring tangible, mutual benefits to both countries, arising from the full implementation of the Points of Agreement on Malayan Railway Land in 2011.

        Prime Minister Najib will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising several Malaysian Cabinet Ministers and senior officials. The Singaporean delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister & Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean and several Cabinet Ministers.
