Senior Minister of State (SMS), Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman made a working visit to Morocco from 29 March to 1 April 2018.
In Rabat, SMS Maliki met with and was hosted to lunch by Minister-Delegate to the Prime Minister for National Defence Administration Abdellatif Loudiyi. They reaffirmed the warm and friendly relations between Singapore and Morocco, and exchanged views on regional developments and security challenges.
SMS Maliki also met Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita and reviewed bilateral relations and reaffirmed the potential for further strengthening of ties for mutual benefit. SMS Maliki also welcomed Morocco’s interest to deepen its engagement with ASEAN.
SMS Maliki also met with Minister of Interior Abdelouafi Laftit; Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed Toufiq; Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and Digital Economy Moulay Hafid Elalamy; and Minister of Tourism, Air Transport, Handicraft and Social Economy Mohamed Sajid.
During SMS Maliki’s call on Minister Elalamy, both sides noted with satisfaction the useful exchange between the Singapore business delegation and their Moroccan counterparts. They also welcomed the growing interest from the private sector in the respective markets. SMS Maliki and Minister Sajid agreed that there was potential for both sides to further expand cooperation in the tourism and civil aviation sectors to be further explored during Minister Sajid's visit to Singapore later this month. Minister Laftit and Minister Toufiq had separate discussions with SMS Maliki on ways to strengthen cooperation on counter-terrorism and to combat extremist ideology. SMS Maliki and Minister Toufiq affirmed the importance of promoting religious tolerance and interfaith dialogue.
In Casablanca, SMS Maliki met separately with President of the Casablanca-Settat Region Mustapha Bakkoury, and President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises Miriem Bensalah-Chaqroun. They welcomed the mutual interest to expand business linkages in areas such as urban-planning and smart cities.
