Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan attended the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 21 May 2018.
The G20 Foreign Ministers discussed the importance of upholding an open rules-based multilateral system, and ways the G20 could promote sustainable development. Minister Balakrishnan reaffirmed the importance of the multilateral trading system as embodied by the World Trade Organisation to promote free trade and facilitate the resolution of trade disputes. Minister Balakrishnan also spoke about Singapore’s initiatives in supporting lifelong learning through SkillsFuture, and in promoting public-private collaboration in infrastructure development through the newly established Infrastructure Office.
Minister Balakrishnan also held meetings with his counterparts from Australia, Chile, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UK on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting and had fruitful discussions with his counterparts from a number of other countries.
