Romanian Vice Prime Minister for Romania’s Strategic Partnerships’ Implementation, Her Excellency Ana Birchall, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean this morning. They reaffirmed the friendly ties between Singapore and Romania, and discussed ways to strengthen and broaden bilateral cooperation. Vice Prime Minister Birchall also conveyed Romania’s continued support for the expeditious ratification of the European Union-Singapore Free Trade Agreement.
Following their meeting, DPM Teo and Vice Prime Minister Birchall witnessed the signing of an Open Skies Agreement between Singapore and Romania. They welcomed the signing of the agreement, which demonstrates the growing ties between Romania and Singapore. It will enable wider economic benefits through increased investment, tourism, and trade between the two countries.
Vice Prime Minister Birchall also met Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. Both welcomed increasing exchanges between both sides. They agreed that there is potential to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as cybersecurity, and information and communications technology (ICT). In addition, Minister Balakrishnan updated Vice Prime Minister Birchall on Singapore’s priorities as ASEAN Chair in 2018.
Vice Prime Minister Birchall is visiting Singapore from 30 May to 4 June 2018 in conjunction with the Shangri-La Dialogue 2018.
