Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had a four-eye meeting with President of the United States (US) Donald J Trump at the Istana today, following which Prime Minister Lee hosted President Trump to a working luncheon. The two leaders last met in October 2017, during Prime Minister Lee’s Official Working Visit to Washington D.C. at President Trump’s invitation.
Prime Minister Lee and President Trump had a good discussion on a wide range of regional and global developments. Both leaders reaffirmed the excellent relations between Singapore and the US across the economic, defence, and security spheres.
President Trump thanked Prime Minister Lee for Singapore’s hosting of the US-Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Summit. President Trump also expressed the US’ continued commitment to engage the region and his support for Singapore’s Chairmanship of ASEAN. In this regard, President Trump accepted the invitation from President Halimah Yacob to make a State Visit to Singapore in November 2018, in conjunction with the 6th ASEAN-US Summit and 13th East Asia Summit.
President Trump is in Singapore to attend the US-DPRK Summit with Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK Kim Jong Un on 12 June 2018.
