Senators Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Cory Gardner (R-Colorado), and David Perdue (R-Georgia) as well as a Congressional Delegation led by Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Representative Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong this afternoon at the Istana. The bipartisan Congressional delegation comprises Congressman Michael Conaway (R-Texas), Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (R-Missouri), Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (D-New Hampshire), and Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-Texas).
During the call, PM Lee and the Members of Congress affirmed the excellent and longstanding relations between Singapore and the United States, which encompass strong economic, defence, and people-to-people ties. PM Lee and the Members of Congress exchanged views on regional and international developments, and reaffirmed the importance of the United States’ continued engagement of the region.
The Members of Congress are in Singapore to attend the 2018 Shangri-La Dialogue. Before the call on PM Lee, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan hosted the Members of Congress to lunch. The Members of Congress also met with Senior Minister of State for Defence Heng Chee How yesterday.
