MFA Press Statement: Visit by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean to Jakarta, Indonesia, 18 to 20 July 2018

Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean is on a working visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, from 18 to 20 July 2018

 

DPM Teo called on President Joko Widodo on 19 July 2018. DPM Teo and President Joko Widodo reaffirmed the long-standing close ties between Singapore and Indonesia. DPM Teo informed President Joko Widodo that PM Lee Hsien Loong looked forward to meeting the President at the upcoming Leaders’ Retreat hosted by Indonesia on 11 October 2018, and discussed the agenda for the Retreat, including cooperation in tourism and security, and in new areas such as the digital economy and skills training.

 

DPM Teo also met Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan. Both leaders exchanged views on regional developments and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation. Earlier in the day, DPM Teo hosted breakfast for Minister of Industry and GOLKAR Chairman Airlangga Hartarto. DPM Teo highlighted Singapore’s commitment to working closely with Indonesia, and that both sides should deepen economic ties, and enhance the environment for trade and investment for the benefit of the people of the two countries.

 

DPM Teo met Commander-in-Chief of the Indonesian Armed Forces (PANGTNI) Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto. DPM Teo said that under PANGTNI Hadi’s leadership, both Armed Forces can further strengthen security cooperation, including counter-terrorism efforts and training exchanges. DPM Teo also had lunch with Governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta Dr Anies Baswedan, where they discussed priorities for Jakarta’s development. While in Jakarta, DPM Teo also took the opportunity to catch up with young Singapore professionals, media personalities and senior business leaders.

 

DPM Teo concludes his visit to Jakarta tomorrow.
