         Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong met Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Han Zheng on 22 August 2018 during his visit to Chongqing.  Vice Premier Han welcomed ESM as an old friend of China and thanked ESM for gracing the inaugural International Smart China Expo (ISCE) as the representative of Singapore as Country of Honour.  ESM and Vice Premier Han reaffirmed the longstanding and close relations between Singapore and China, which has evolved with the times to meet the needs and interests of both countries.  They had a broad discussion on our extensive bilateral cooperation, including the good progress made by the three Government-to-Government projects, namely, the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park, the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City and the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (CCI). 

         ESM separately met Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC and Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee Chen Min’er.  ESM and Party Secretary Chen exchanged views on how both sides could enhance cooperation in the CCI priority areas of cooperation, including financial services, aviation, transport & logistics and information and communications technology.

         ESM will deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony of the ISCE on 23 August 2018 in Chongqing.

         ESM is accompanied by SPS (Foreign Affairs) (Trade and Industry) Tan Wu Meng, and officials from MFA, MTI and IMDA.  He returns to Singapore on 24 August.
