MFA Press Statement: Condolence Letters from Singapore Leaders on the Collapse of a Motorway Bridge in Genoa, Italy, 14 August 2018

President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong have written to President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella and President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic (Prime Minister) Giuseppe Conte respectively to offer their condolences over the collapse of a motorway bridge in Genoa, Italy, on 14 August 2018. The text of the letters is appended.


Thus far, there are no reports of Singaporeans injured in the incident. Singaporeans in Genoa should stay in touch with family and friends so that they know you are safe. Those who require consular assistance should contact the 24-hour MFA Duty Office at +65 6379 8800/8855.

I was saddened to hear of the tragic loss of life and injury caused by the collapse of a motorway bridge in Genoa on 14 August 2018.

 

 

On behalf of the people of Singapore, I extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families affected by the tragedy.  We wish the injured a speedy recovery.

 

 

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Italy during this difficult time.
