A delegation of five German parliamentarians from the “Youngsters Group” of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) is visiting Singapore from 13 to 15 August 2018. The delegation is led by Chairman of the SPD Youngsters Group, Dr Jens Zimmermann. They are visiting Singapore under the second run of a study visit initiated by Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen parliamentary ties between Singapore and Germany.
The delegation paid a courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan earlier today. They reaffirmed the excellent relations between Singapore and Germany, and discussed developments in Asia and Europe. This was followed by a call on Deputy Speaker of Parliament Charles Chong and lunch with Singapore Members of Parliament.
On 13 August 2018, the delegation met Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Dr Koh Poh Koon, and was hosted to lunch by Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Trade and Industry, Dr Tan Wu Meng.
The delegation visited Canberra Primary School, Housing & Development Board (HDB), and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) to learn about Singapore’s education, housing, and urban development policies. They also observed a Meet-the-People Session at Sembawang Group Representation Constituency, hosted by Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Singapore-Europe Regional Parliamentary Group, Dr Lim Wee Kiak.
