MFA Press Statement: Visit by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean to Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, 4 to 9 September 2018

Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) & Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean is in Kuching, Sarawak, as part of his ongoing Working Visit to Malaysia.
 
DPM Teo was hosted to lunch by the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Dr Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Johari today. DPM Teo and Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari reaffirmed the strong ties between Singapore and Sarawak, rooted in longstanding people-to-people ties and many common interests. They agreed to continue expanding cooperation for mutual benefit in areas such as tourism, including cruise tourism, education, biodiversity research, and digital economy, among others.
 
DPM Teo also called on the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud. DPM Teo thanked Tun Pehin Taib for his continued support and efforts to strengthen Singapore-Sarawak relations. They also exchanged views on developments in Malaysia and the region.
 
DPM Teo will be hosted to dinner this evening by the Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth, and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah.
 
  Tomorrow, DPM Teo will meet senior Sarawak business and media personalities, before flying to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
 
DPM Teo is accompanied by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, Sim Ann, and Chairperson of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Home Affairs and Law, Christopher De Souza.
