Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev, who is on a working visit to Singapore from 20 to 21 November 2018, called on and was hosted to lunch by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana this afternoon. Reaffirming the excellent ties between the two countries, both leaders discussed ways to further broaden bilateral cooperation. Prime Minister Lee thanked Prime Minister Sagintayev for Kazakhstan’s strong support for the successful conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Singapore and the Eurasian Economic Union, which will promote regional trade and investment linkages once finalised. Both leaders also witnessed the exchange of the Promotion and Mutual Protection of Investments Agreement, as well as the Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic, Service or Official Passports Agreement.
At the Kazakhstan-Singapore Business Forum (KSBF) held this morning, Prime Minister Sagintayev delivered the opening address with a keynote address by Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong. The KSBF showcased a wide range of business and investment opportunities for both countries under the theme of “Investment Climate in Kazakhstan – Untapped Opportunities for Singapore and the Wider Region”. ESM hosted dinner for Prime Minister Sagintayev yesterday with a wide-ranging discussion on developments in Kazakhstan, as well as regional and global developments.
Prime Minister Sagintayev was also briefed on Singapore’s housing and innovation policies during his respective visits to HDB Hub and Fusionopolis and Biopolis. He also visited the National Orchid Garden at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on 20 November 2018.
