MFA Press Statement: Official Visit of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, His Excellency Andrej Babiš, 14 to 15 January 2019

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, His Excellency Andrej Babiš, is on an Official Visit to Singapore. He received an official Welcome Ceremony at the Istana this afternoon, and called on President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

 

President Halimah and Prime Minister Babiš reaffirmed our warm and friendly relations. They welcomed the increasing bilateral exchanges at all levels in recent years, particularly the growing economic exchanges and ties between our institutes of higher learning.

 

  Prime Minister Lee and Prime Minister Babiš discussed growing collaborations between the two countries, and areas to enhance the relationship, including in trade, technology and research. They also exchanged views on domestic and regional developments. Prime Minister Lee thanked Prime Minister Babiš for the Czech Republic’s strong support for the ratification of the EU-Singapore FreeTrade Agreement (EUSFTA).

 

  Prime Minister Lee will host an Official Dinner for Prime Minister Babiš this evening.

 

Prime Minister Babiš continues his Official Visit tomorrow. He will visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens where an orchid will be named in his honour. In addition, he will deliver the Keynote Address at a Singapore-Czech Republic Business Forum, meet with Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat, and make a site visit to the Centre of Excellence for Testing & Research of Autonomous Vehicles – Nanyang Technological University (CETRAN).

 

        Prime Minister Babiš will depart Singapore tomorrow afternoon.
