MFA Press Statement: Condolence Letters from President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Indonesian President Joko Widodo on the flash floods in Jayapura, Papua, Indonesia, 16 Mar 2019

President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong have written to President Joko Widodo of the Republic of Indonesia to convey their condolences over the flash floods in Jayapura, Papua, Indonesia on 16 March 2019. The text of the letters is appended.

 

The Singapore Embassy in Jakarta is monitoring the situation closely. There are currently no reports of Singaporeans affected by the flash floods. Any Singaporeans in the affected areas are advised to monitor the local news closely, and heed the instructions of the local authorities. Singaporeans are also advised to stay in touch with your family and friends so that they know you are safe. On behalf of the people of Singapore, I extend my deepest condolences on the flash floods in Jayapura, Papua on 16 March 2019. I was saddened to hear of the loss of lives, injuries, and damages. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Indonesia and the loved ones of those affected.
