Letter from President Halimah Yacob to President Nguyen Phu Trong

26 April 2019

His Excellency Nguyen Phu Trong
President
Socialist Republic of Vietnam

[Your Excellency,]

On behalf of the people of Singapore, I express my deepest condolences to Your Excellency and the people of Vietnam on the passing of former President Le Duc Anh.

While in office, President Anh played an important role in deepening the bilateral relations between Singapore and Vietnam.  His Presidency took place at a time when relations between our two countries were growing rapidly. This included the establishment of the first Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park in 1996, which has now become a flagship of our bilateral ties.

Singapore has lost a close friend.  Please accept my sincere and deepest condolences during this time of sorrow.

[Yours sincerely,]

HALIMAH YACOB
