Visit by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman to the State of Qatar, 30 April to 1 May 2019

Senior Minister of State (SMS), Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, made a visit to Doha from 30 April to 1 May 2019. SMS Maliki was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Law.

While in Doha, SMS Maliki attended the 16th Asia Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting. In line with the theme of the meeting, “Partners in Progress”, SMS Maliki expressed Singapore’s willingness to share our developmental experiences with ACD countries in areas, such as Public Administration, Economic Development, Port Management, Civil Aviation and Water Management. SMS Maliki called on all ACD Member States to work together to tackle shared transboundary challenges in our interconnected world. He also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, Minister of Justice Dr Issa Bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, and Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali Bin Ahmed Al Kuwari. 

The meetings affirmed the warm bilateral relations between Singapore and Qatar, and noted the deepening relations across various sectors. Both sides exchanged views on developments in the Middle East and other issues of mutual concern. Acting as Special Envoy of the Minister for Home Affairs and Law, SMS Maliki also extended an invitation for the State of Qatar to participate in the signing ceremony of the Singapore Convention on Mediation, a new treaty to be signed on 7 August 2019 that allows international settlement agreements resulting from mediation to be enforced or invoked.
