State Visit by His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, President of the Republic of Maldives, 1 July 2019

President of the Republic of Maldives His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is on a State Visit to Singapore, met President Halimah Yacob, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and was hosted to a State Lunch by President Halimah.
 
During the meetings, the leaders reaffirmed the warm and friendly ties between Singapore and the Maldives and discussed ways to enhance bilateral and economic cooperation. President Solih briefed President Halimah and Prime Minister Lee on the priorities of his government, including on sustainable development. In this regard, Singapore will provide a two-year technical cooperation package, through the Singapore Cooperation Programme, for senior Maldivian officials in the areas of sustainable development and governance. Both sides also identified opportunities for further collaboration in healthcare, security, infrastructure and connectivity.
 
Prime Minister Lee and President Solih also witnessed the signing of two agreements:
 
  a) Open Skies Agreement. The agreement will enhance air connectivity between the two countries and facilitate greater commercial, tourism and people-to-people linkages.
 
b) MOU on Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore. The agreement will strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation between the foreign ministries.
 
President Solih will depart Singapore on 2 July 2019.
