Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan is on a working visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, from 16 to 18 July 2019.
Minister Balakrishnan called on President Joko Widodo at the Istana Bogor earlier today. They reaffirmed the long-standing and close ties between Singapore and Indonesia, and discussed how the two countries could build on this strong foundation in the coming years. Minister Balakrishnan said that Singapore looked forward to welcoming President Joko Widodo for the Bicentennial National Day Parade on 9 August 2019, and for the next Leaders’ Retreat in Singapore.
Later that afternoon, Minister Balakrishnan called on former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at his residence in Bogor, and had a good discussion on the importance of building strong, long-term relationships at all levels.
Minister Balakrishnan also had separate meals with National Awakening Party (PKB) Chairman Bapak Muhaimin Iskandar and former Jakarta Vice-Governor Bapak Sandiaga Uno. They discussed ongoing trends and developments in Singapore, Indonesia and the region.
