8th Meeting of the Singapore Honorary Consuls-General 8 – 12 July 2019

07 July 2019

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) will hold its 8th Meeting of Singapore Honorary Consuls-General (HCGs) from 8 to 12 July 2019. The last meeting took place in April 2015.

Singapore currently has 33 HCGs across 29 countries. Many of our HCGs are distinguished and well-respected individuals in their respective countries. They play a key role in promoting Singapore’s political, commercial and diplomatic interests abroad. They help to extend Singapore’s footprint in major cities and countries where we do not have resident diplomatic presence, and broaden access for Singapore public and private sector representatives. In close coordination with MFA, our HCGs also play a key role in rendering consular assistance to Singaporeans in places where we have no diplomatic missions.

In honour of their distinguished service, President Halimah Yacob will be hosting a tea reception for the HCGs and their spouses at the Istana on 10 July 2019. In addition, the HCGs and their spouses will call on Prime Minister and Mrs Lee Hsien Loong respectively. The following day, they will join the Diplomatic Corps in Singapore to attend the President’s Annual Diplomatic Reception at the Istana. During the 8th Meeting, they will also have the opportunity to engage in a conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan separately. The HCGs will also be briefed by MFA officials and other government agencies on the latest developments in Singapore, so that they can help promote Singapore’s interests in their respective countries.
