Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan's Meeting With PRC State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, 31 July 2019

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan met PRC State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi on 31 July 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand, on the sidelines of the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings.
 
Minister Balakrishnan and State Councilor Wang reaffirmed the excellent relations between Singapore and China. They noted the frequent high-level exchanges between the two sides, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat’s upcoming visit to China to co-chair the 15th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation. 
 
Minister Balakrishnan and State Councilor Wang reaffirmed the good progress in bilateral cooperation, including the three Government-to-Government projects and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor under the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity. They welcomed new areas of cooperation such as the Singapore-Shanghai Comprehensive Cooperation Council, Singapore-Shenzhen smart cities twinning, as well as collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative. 
 
Minister Balakrishnan and State Councilor Wang also took stock of the positive developments in ASEAN-China relations. State Councilor Wang expressed appreciation for the constructive role that Singapore has played in advancing ASEAN-China cooperation. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments.
