Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean is leading a delegation of Singapore political office-holders for the 7th Young Leaders’ Programme (YLP) in Negara Brunei Darussalam. This is the second day of their four-day programme in Brunei, as part of an annual exchange to deepen ties between younger leaders from both countries.
Earlier today, SM Teo and the delegation had an audience with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam. They discussed regional issues and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the special relationship between Singapore and Brunei. SM Teo also thanked His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah for attending the Bicentennial National Day Parade in Singapore on 9 August 2019. Mrs Teo had a separate audience with Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha.
SM Teo, Mrs Teo and the delegation also had an audience with and were hosted to lunch by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office of Negara Brunei Darussalam, and Her Royal Highness Princess Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Billah and SM Teo discussed recent developments in Brunei, Singapore and the region. They also reaffirmed their commitment to deepening longstanding and strong ties, and exploring new areas of collaboration. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Billah and SM Teo announced the formation of a Singapore-Brunei Joint Working Group for Agri-Food Collaboration, between the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore and the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Negara Brunei Darussalam.
SM Teo and the delegation also called on Special Advisor to the Sultan and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Di-Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa. Tonight, SM Teo and the delegation will be hosted to a welcome dinner by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti.
On the evening of 1 October 2019, SM Teo and the delegation met the Singapore community in Brunei at a dinner reception hosted by the High Commission of Singapore in Brunei.
SM Teo is accompanied by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu; Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli; Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence, Heng Chee How; Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Health, Edwin Tong; and Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Trade and Industry, Dr Tan Wu Meng.
