State Visit of President Halimah Yacob to the Federal Republic of Germany, 9 to 13 December 2019

President Halimah Yacob will make a State Visit to the Federal Republic of Germany from 9 to 13 December 2019. This marks a historic milestone for the bilateral relationship as it is the first State Visit by a Singapore President to Germany.

 

The visit will commence in Berlin where President will call on President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who will host a State Banquet in President’s honour. In addition, President will have meetings with Chancellor Angela Merkel and Governing Mayor of Berlin Michael Mueller. President will then visit the Federal State of Hesse where she will meet Minister-President Volker Bouffier, who will host a banquet for President. She will also visit German companies in Berlin, Frankfurt and Heidelberg that have strong skills and training practices. In addition, President will meet with overseas Singaporeans in Frankfurt. 

 

President Halimah will be accompanied by Mr Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee; Minister for Education Mr Ong Ye Kung; Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Dr Tan Wu Meng; and Members of Parliament Dr Fatimah Binte Abdul Lateef, Mr Patrick Tay, and Mr Murali Pillai. A business delegation organised by the Singapore Business Federation will visit Germany in conjunction with the State Visit.

 

During President Halimah’s absence, Mr Eddie Teo, Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers, will exercise the function of the Office of the President.
