State Visit by President Halimah Yacob to The Federal Republic of Germany, 9 to 13 December 2019

President Halimah Yacob, who is on a State Visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, met with the Hesse Minister-President Volker Bouffier on 12 December 2019, who hosted a banquet in President Halimah’s honour at the historic Schloss Biebrich. Both sides reaffirmed the good relationship between Singapore and the State of Hesse and agreed to continue working closely to facilitate cooperation across various fields.

  Earlier in the day, President visited the Continental AG in Frankfurt and ABB Stotz in Heidelberg to learn more about Germany’s technical and vocational training system. Both companies gave presentations on their initiatives to help train, upskill and create a future-ready workforce.

  At ABB Stotz, President also witnessed the signing of (a) a joint declaration between Minister for Education Ong Ye Kung and State Secretary Volker Schebesta, Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) on the extension of collaboration between MOE and MEYS in the fields of Digitalisation, Teacher Training, Geriatrics and Community Care; and (b) a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SIT and the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Mannheim (DHBW) to facilitate staff and student exchanges between the two universities.
