Chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Commission for Internal Affairs and Member of the CPV Central Committee Secretariat Phan Dinh Trac is visiting Singapore from 18 to 20 February 2020, at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan under the S R Nathan Fellowship.
Chairman Trac was hosted to breakfast by Minister Balakrishnan, and met Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam today.
Chairman Trac and Minister Balakrishnan affirmed the excellent relations between Singapore and Vietnam, and the potential for greater bilateral cooperation in areas such as smart cities, technology and innovation. They exchanged views on international and regional developments, and agreed on the importance of upholding ASEAN Centrality and deepening economic integration. Minister Balakrishnan expressed Singapore’s full support for Vietnam’s Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2020.
During the meeting with Minister Shanmugam, both sides reaffirmed the close cooperation between the two countries in legal and security issues, and had a discussion on judicial reform, anti-corruption measures, and cybersecurity.
Chairman Trac will call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat tomorrow. Earlier, Chairman Trac received a briefing by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau, and met Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon.
The S R Nathan Fellowship is a high-level programme where foreign leaders, prominent personalities and opinion shapers are invited to Singapore to exchange ideas and experiences on important issues with Singapore leaders and senior government officials. The Fellowship was launched by former President S R Nathan and then-Minister for Foreign Affairs K Shanmugam in November 2012.
