State Visit of President Halimah Yacob to Indonesia, 3 to 6 February 2020

President Halimah Yacob arrived in Yogyakarta yesterday evening for the last leg of her State Visit. President was hosted to dinner by Governor of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X. President and Sultan Hamengkubuwono X reaffirmed the strong ties between Singapore and Yogyakarta and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation, especially in areas such as smart cities development, cultural cooperation, entrepreneurship, and exchanges between our universities.
 

This morning, President visited Gadjah Mada University (UGM), and was hosted by UGM Rector Professor Panut Mulyono. President had an engaging dialogue with UGM students centred on the theme “Singapore and Indonesia: Strengthening Bridges and Progressing Together”. President shared with the students the substantive and mutually-beneficial cooperation between Singapore and Indonesia, and encouraged them, as future leaders, to further deepen the strong people-to-people ties between Singapore and Indonesia in the years to come.
 

In the afternoon, President visited BLOCK71 Yogyakarta, an initiative by NUS Enterprise and Indonesia’s Salim Group to develop start-up ecosystems in Yogyakarta. President welcomed the strong potential for Singapore and Indonesia to work together in the tech and innovation sector to improve the lives of the peoples in both countries.
 

President will conclude her State Visit to Indonesia and return to Singapore this evening.
