PRC State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan in Singapore on 13 October 2020.
Minister Balakrishnan and State Councilor Wang reaffirmed the excellent relationship between Singapore and China as both sides marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2020. They noted that the two countries had maintained high-level exchanges throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. They welcomed the good progress in bilateral cooperation in our three Government-to-Government projects, and other areas such as trade, investment and people-to-people ties. Both sides committed mutual support for economic recovery, including cooperation in COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics, and the safe resumption of international travel.
Minister Balakrishnan and State Councilor Wang also exchanged views on regional and international developments. They welcomed cooperation by the international community against the socio-economic impact of the pandemic, including by strengthening regional and multilateral cooperation on the equitable distribution of vaccines, maintaining supply chain connectivity and upholding the rules-based multilateral trading system.
