Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan had a telephone call with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on 16 February 2021.
Minister Balakrishnan congratulated Mr Sullivan on his appointment. Both reaffirmed the wide-ranging cooperation spanning defence and security, trade and investment, and cybersecurity. Minister Balakrishnan expressed support for the United States’ leadership role in tackling important global issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, and expressed Singapore’s readiness to cooperate with the United States on these fronts. Minister Balakrishnan and Mr Sullivan exchanged views on international and regional developments; they agreed to work together to expand the United States’ engagement of the Asia-Pacific region, especially ASEAN.
