Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan participated in the ASEAN-UK Troika Dialogue via videoconference on 8 April 2021. The meeting was chaired by Brunei Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof. The United Kingdom (UK) was represented by Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.
The Dialogue follows the discussions at the Troika Virtual Meeting between ASEAN Foreign Ministers and the Foreign Secretary of the UK on COVID-19 on 30 September 2020. The participants shared their respective national vaccination rollout plans and reaffirmed their commitment to sustainable post-pandemic economic recovery. Minister Balakrishnan discussed possible future cooperation as part of post-COVID-19 recovery, including how to work towards the safe resumption of travel.
Minister Balakrishnan welcomedthe UK’s presidency of the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP-26), and looked forward to further cooperation with the UK on climate change. Minister Balakrishnan also reiterated Singapore’s strong and consistent support for the UK’s continued engagement of ASEAN post-Brexit, including the UK’s application for ASEAN Dialogue Partnership.
