Condolence Letter from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth
7 June 2021
Dear Prime Minister Jugnauth,
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your father, former Prime Minister and President Sir Anerood Jugnauth.
In his long and illustrious career, Sir Anerood worked tirelessly to advance Mauritius’ development, and transformed it into one of the most prosperous and developed countries in Africa.
We will always remember Sir Anerood as a friend of Singapore. He was a strong supporter of closer relations between our countries and enjoyed warm personal ties with many past and present Singapore leaders. Under his leadership, Singapore and Mauritius collaborated on numerous projects and concluded agreements that deepened our bilateral trade and aviation links, including the Bilateral Investment Treaty and the Air Services Agreement.
On behalf of the Government of Singapore, I extend my deepest condolences to you and your family, and to the Government and people of Mauritius.
Yours sincerely,
LEE HSIEN LOONG
The Honourable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth
