President Halimah Yacob has written to President of the Republic of the Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte to convey condolences on the passing of former President Benigno S. Aquino III on 24 June 2021. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and former President Dr Tony Tan have also written to President Aquino’s family to offer condolences. The text of President Halimah Yacob’s letter is appended.

Your Excellency,

 

 

On behalf of the people of the Republic of Singapore, I convey our deepest condolences to the people of the Republic of the Philippines on the passing of former President Benigno S. Aquino III. 

 

 

President Aquino strengthened the economic foundation of the Philippines during his term in office. He worked tirelessly for Filipinos and left a legacy of enduring prosperity for the country. President Aquino also made invaluable contributions to deepening the friendship between the Philippines and Singapore.  I will always cherish the memory of meeting him during his State Visit to Singapore in 2011.

 

 

Our thoughts are with his family and the people of the Philippines during this time of loss.
