Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Second Minister for Education Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman made a working visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 25 to 27 October 2021.
Minister Maliki met Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Member of the Council of Ministers His Excellency Adel Al Jubeir. They affirmed the excellent bilateral relationship between Singapore and Saudi Arabia and exchanged views on developments in the Middle East, including the Middle East Peace Process.
Minister Maliki also called on Minister of Education His Excellency Dr Hamad Al Sheikh. They agreed that Singapore and Saudi Arabia could enhance education collaboration, including through more exchanges between our higher education institutes.
Minister Maliki also had separate meetings with Minister of Investment His Excellency Khalid Al Falih and Minister of Transport and Logistic Services His Excellency Saleh Al Jasser. They reaffirmed the desire on both sides to deepen economic relations in areas such as seaport and airport management. They also looked forward to the inaugural meeting of the Saudi-Singapore Joint Committee later this year.
Separately, Minister Maliki had lunch with Chairman of the King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies His Royal Highness Prince Turki Al Faisal. They had an extensive exchange of views on global and regional developments.
Minister Maliki also participated in a panel discussion “A Macroeconomic Outlook: Job Creation – Feast or Famine?” at the 5th Future Investment Initiative conference on 26 October 2021. Minister Maliki shared Singapore’s tripartite approach of holistically developing human potential and capital.
In addition, Minister Maliki met several Singaporean students studying in Riyadh to better understand their situation in Saudi Arabia, and visited the King Saud University.
