His Excellency Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, Prime Minister of Mongolia, received a ceremonial welcome at the Istana this morning. Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene called on Acting President Eddie Teo and met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who also hosted an Official Lunch. Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene had a new orchid hybrid, the Papilionanda Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, named in his honour.
Acting President Teo and Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene reaffirmed the warm relations between Singapore and Mongolia, which had expanded over the years. Acting President Teo and Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene also discussed how to promote closer collaboration between both countries and issues of mutual interest, such as in pension fund policies and public housing.
Prime Minister Lee and Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene reaffirmed the friendly bilateral relations, and discussed areas of cooperation, such as capacity building and urban development projects. They also welcomed the signing on 7 July 2022 of a Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) between Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) and the Mongolian Ministry of Labour and Social Protection on the review and development of a comprehensive and sustainable pension system in Mongolia; and an MOU between SCE and Mongolian Ministry of Construction and Urban Development on capacity building programmes on public housing. Both Prime Ministers also reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintain a rules-based multilateral system, and exchanged views on regional and global developments.
Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene will depart Singapore tomorrow.
