President Halimah Yacob was received by His Highness Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani at the Amiri Diwan in Doha this morning. After the Ceremonial Welcome Ceremony, President Halimah called on Sheikh Tamim who hosted a State Luncheon in President’s honour. President Halimah and Sheikh Tamim reaffirmed the longstanding and excellent ties between Singapore and Qatar. They noted the importance of the Singapore - Qatar High Level Joint Committee (HLJC) as the key platform for bilateral engagement and welcomed the convening of the 8th HLJC later this year. As small states, both countries share many common challenges and a mutual interest in promoting a rules-based world order.
President Halimah and Sheikh Tamim had a fruitful discussion on ways to strengthen cooperation in areas including trade and investment, energy, and food security. President Halimah and Sheikh Tamim also had an exchange of views on regional and international developments.
President Halimah and Sheikh Tamim welcomed the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding in the areas of capacity building, Liquefied Natural Gas and low-carbon technology, food security, cybersecurity, and innovation. The list of MOUs are at Annex.
His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Al Thani paid a courtesy call on President Halimah. They had a productive discussion on bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on recent global developments. Sheikh Mohammed will make an Official Visit to Singapore later this year, in conjunction with the 8th HLJC.
President Halimah will depart for Singapore tomorrow morning.
