Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan has written to Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco His Excellency Nasser Bourita to offer condolences over the devastating earthquake that struck Morocco on 8 September 2023. The Singapore Government will also contribute US$50,000 to support the Singapore Red Cross’ public fundraising efforts towards the humanitarian crisis caused by the earthquake.

Dear Nasser,
I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and damage that the earthquake has inflicted on the city of Marrakech and surrounding areas.
On behalf of the Government of Singapore, I would like to convey my deepest sympathies to the families of those affected by the disaster. I wish for the speedy recovery of those who were injured.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Morocco during this difficult time.
