Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan met Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard, and Minister for Digitalisation and Gender Equality Marie Bjerre in Copenhagen.
Minister Balakrishnan and the Danish leaders affirmed the warm and longstanding relations between Singapore and Denmark, underpinned by strong economic links and cooperation in the maritime sector. They discussed how Singapore and Denmark can strengthen cooperation in decarbonisation of the shipping industry, the establishment of green shipping corridors, and work towards achieving net zero emissions. They also welcomed further collaboration in areas of common interest such as renewable energy, sustainable development, AI, digitalisation and digital inclusion, quantum technology and synthetic biology.
Minister Balakrishnan and the Danish leaders also exchanged views on international and regional developments, and underscored the critical importance of ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation through straits used for international navigation, including the Red Sea. This is of vital importance to maritime and shipping hubs like Singapore and Denmark.
