His Royal Highness Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II, Crown Prince of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, received a ceremonial welcome at the Istana this morning. Crown Prince Al Hussein had separate calls on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who also hosted an Official Lunch in his honour.
President Tharman and Crown Prince Al Hussein reaffirmed the warm ties between Singapore and Jordan, and welcomed the healthy exchange of high-level visits. Prime Minister Lee and Crown Prince Al Hussein discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in fields such as public administration and Technical and Vocational Education and Training. Prime Minister Lee also encouraged greater people-to-people exchanges between Singapore and Jordan, and conveyed his appreciation for Jordan’s support for the Singaporean student community in Amman and Irbid. President Tharman and Prime Minister Lee had useful exchanges of views with Crown Prince Al Hussein on developments in the Middle East, including the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Six Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) were signed on the sidelines of the visit. The list of MOUs is at Annex. Separately, the Ministry of Communications and Information and the Jordanian Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship agreed to explore collaboration in various fields, including skills training and capacity-building in cybersecurity.
During the visit, Crown Prince Al Hussein also met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, and Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean. Crown Prince Al Hussein visited the Gardens by the Bay to officiate the opening of the Jordan Tourism Exhibition and planted an olive tree. Earlier on 11 January, Crown Prince Al Hussein visited the Institute of Technical Education and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
