WORKING VISIT TO SINGAPORE BY 

HIS HIGHNESS SHEIKH ABDULLAH BIN ZAYED AL NAHYAN, MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES  

 10 TO 11 MAY 2018

      


His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), visited Singapore from 10 to 11 May 2018.  Sheikh Abdullah called on President Halimah Yacob on 10 May, and in the meeting, they agreed on the importance of fostering social cohesion and tolerance in multicultural countries like Singapore and the UAE.  During his call on Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean, Sheikh Abdullah and DPM Teo discussed ways to strengthen cooperation at all levels and increase people-to-people exchanges. 


At a lunch hosted by Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam, views were exchanged on regional and international developments and the shared commitment to combat terrorism and strengthen security cooperation was reaffirmed.  Sheikh Abdullah was hosted to dinner by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.  Besides sharing perspectives on issues in their respective regions, both Ministers reaffirmed the strong relationship and discussed ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation.  


Sheikh Abdullah, who also serves as Chair of the UAE Education and Human Resources Council, was hosted to lunch by Minister for Education Ong Ye Kung on 11 May 2018.  They had a fruitful exchange on the respective educational systems of UAE and Singapore and ways to strengthen education cooperation to build skilled and adaptable workforces.  Sheikh Abdullah also visited two schools to obtain a better appreciation of Singapore’s education system.  Sheikh Abdullah will depart Singapore later today.
