BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY
Ms Catherine Wong Siow Ping was appointed as Singapore’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand and arrived in Bangkok in February 2024. Prior to her arrival, Ms Wong was Director-General of Southeast Asia I Directorate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from February 2021-November 2023, which is in charge of Singapore’s bilateral relations with Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Ms Wong was Singapore’s Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam from September 2016 to January 2021. She received the Order of Friendship by the President of Vietnam, His Excellency Nguyen Phu Trong in 2021.
Since joining the Singapore Foreign Service in 1995, Ms Wong has served in various capacities on issues related to Americas, ASEAN, Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia. She served as Consul (Political) in the Singapore Consulate-General in Hong Kong from June 1997 to June 2000; as the Special Assistant to Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo from August 2004 to December 2005; and as Counsellor (Political) in the Singapore Embassy in Washington from May 2006 to July 2008. Ms Wong has also served as Director-General of Consular Directorate from May 2012 to October 2014, and Director-General of Americas Directorate from July 2014 to August 2016 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ms Wong graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science in Mass Communications (Honours) from the National University of Singapore in 1995. She obtained her Master of Arts in Political Science from Columbia University in the City of New York, USA in 2003.
Ms Wong was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2022 and the Long Service Medal in 2020.
