MFA Spokesman's Comments in response to media queries on the collapse of a crane in the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Saudi Arabia on 11 September 2015

     In response to media queries on the collapse of a crane in the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on 11 September 2015, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Spokesman said:

 

     “We are deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic accident in the Grand Mosque in Makkah. We would like to convey our deepest condolences to the people of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi government and the families of the victims.  Our MUIS representatives in Makkah have confirmed that the Singapore pilgrims under their charge are safe. As of now, there are no reports of any Singaporean casualties.  MFA will continue to keep in close contact with Singaporeans in the Kingdom and monitor developments closely.

 

     Singaporeans who require consular assistance could contact the Singapore Embassy in Riyadh or the Singapore Consulate-General in Jeddah or the MFA Duty Officer
